For every sold item:

We pick up 1.4 Kg beach/ocean plastic

We plant 1 VCS certified mangrove tree

SOMWR is full of people focused on environmental action based on its roots in watersports and eco Tiki connection.

We turn the impact of purchasing  new products upside down by drawing down 10 X more CO2 than the full production of the item. Despite only using organically grown materials, we pick up 1.4 kg of beach / ocean plastic per item sold, the average amount of plastic that reaches the ocean annually per person.

Our impact in numbers

What SOWMR has achieved with our partners:

2 000 000

mangrove trees planted.

762,727

kg Ocean plastic collected.

672 million

kg CO2e sequestered
over 25 years.*

Stats updated 01.11.23

*This number is an estimate based on average mangrove carbon sequestration rates for our forests in Myanmar.

What makes SOMWR different?

What do you mean 10x climate positive?

Some CO2 emission are still an unavoidable part of  harvesting, transport and production of our garments.

We calculate these emissions and plant 1 VCS certified mangrove for every item made to sequester/ draw down that amount of carbon 10 times over during a 25 year period.

The carbon is stored in the oxygen free mud along our coastal climate parks, where bio diversity is regenerated and nurtured,

Sustainable development projects and livelihood programs are financed with income from the park’s own carbon credit sales.

WHY DO WE USE ORGANIC FABRIC MATERIALS?

Since the introduction of pesticides and non organic fertilizers soil health, water quality and biodiversity has suffered immensely. Growing fibers organically avoids all these negative issues .

Organic cotton for example uses 91% less water, sees  46% fewer greenhouse gas emissions since the soil isn't loaded with pesticides and can actually absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. 98% reduction of water pollution since synthetic chemicals aren't used.

HOW CAN YOU HELP FIGHT BEACH/ OCEAN PLASTIC ?

We do not offer plastic, polyester of fossil fuel based products

But we want to  help overcome  ocean plastic pollution, so we pick up 1.4 kg of beach/ ocean plastic for every item sold. This is the global average of plastic that ends up in the ocean per person per year.

Overall we have picked up 600,000+ kg together with our sister company Starboard who pioneered the first Plastic Offset Program and was awarded the iconic World Sailing sustainability award for leading the way in environmental stewardship.
